News: 5/27/12

Been a loooong while since I’ve posted an update about Burly Press and the goings on… Apologies for that. Been a very strange and stressful year since the last convention here in ABQ. It involved many personal, professional, mental, physical, and family issues and speed bumps to overcome. Instead of harping on that lemme just say it was an adventure to say the least!

I’ve been working on Bludgeon #1 as fast and furiously as I can muster (and still have 3 jobs on top of it). And I’m happy to say it will be completed soon! Unfortunately not in time for the ABQ Comic Expo. So in order to have something new prepared I am publishing a FREE b/w mini ashcan preview. It will have a few pageS from Bludgeon #1 as well as a mini poster/pinup of Blugdeony goodness! This will be an ACE exclusive but if I have any left I’ll include them in future orders til they are gone.

If you’re coming to ACE this year remember to stop by table E19 and pick one up, say hi to myself and my buddy/collaborator Greg Freeland and buy our stuffs! :) I’ll have the current lineup of Burly Press stuff, and Greg is gonna have an awesome cryptid coloring book and some shirts to sell on top of his usual awesome art.

See ya there!

I want this framed! :D too bad it’s posted sans credit so I can’t look up the artist :( I hate that.

EDIT: the original poster contacted me and said she posted credit and a link where to buy the print. YAY! Now I have to sift thru 4700 notes to find original post. *sigh* so the moral is… Don’t delete the original post’s information when you reblog, folks.

Denis Medri returns to take a look at the rogues of Gotham and more of Batman’s supporting. Catwoman, Joker, Poison Ivy and Bane join Batgirl, James Gordon and Alfred in round out this amazing collection of Rockabilly gothamites. It’s interesting to note that reimagining Catwoman for the 1950s brings her costume full circle, close to her original suit from the 1940s.

Check out this awesome rockabilly reimagining of Batman! (of course my favorite is Bane)

We stand on the brink of a new Golden Age for comic books. Never before has there been such a diverse range of material and stories to choose from.

There is truly a comic book for every reader under the sun. In the next few years creator owned comics are going to spill into the mainstream of…

Excellent advice for indie creators.

I will be a the Albuquerque Comic Expo June 8-10! I’ll be there making sketches, selling Starkers Spang, Puddingstone Institute Color-Me-In Field guide, some prints, and some shirts! Come and visit! I’ll be hanging sharing table E19 with my good friend and frequent collaborator Jeremy Owen of Burly Press. We’re table neighbors to some of my personal comic heroes so this is going to be fun.

Thanks to Greg for posting this! Come to ACE and visit us at table E19!

Hey folks!

This is just a quick update on how the campaign is going so far (mostly a thank you for the amazing initial response).  For those of you who haven’t seen my Indiegogo campaign yet, you can find it right here!  Please take a look and consider donating or at least sharing the link.  Thank you!

~Drew

Drew Green has an indiegogo campaign to help fund his next chapter of The Super Gay Adventures Of Ross Boston… A web comic that I enjoy. Please give it a looksee and donate if you can. Some fun rewards for donations too :)

And here’s the final of my Cybermen commission. Ink and brush 12x17. I went for the non-Cybus branded look on the chest plate and stuck with the more modern rendition of the Cybers. I have some other sketches of the older incarnations so I might do some sort of evolutionary illustration at some point. Oh, and it’s my first Doctor Who related commission/fan art. I seriously need to do more of these!

Cybermen… By my friend, story collaborator, and editor Greg Freeland.

Got some spare time? Make a comic!

Download the sample printable comic right here!

Reasons for doing this?

1: My followers can finally have a printed comic by me.

2: It seemed like a fun activity to do, specially with young kids.

3: It might be cool if interweb folks shared tiny little mini comics with each other. And a whole bunch of people can print each other’s comics and maybe we could collect ones by other artists. So… ya know. Why not?

EDIT: AHH! Before I forget, I should mention that this mini comic format was created by the folks at http://www.pocketmod.com/ I came by their technique while listening to Fear the Boot, a roleplaying game podcast as they were interviewing Stuart Robertson an indie table top rpg designer.

If you’d like, support those folks cause they helped me discover this neat design.

EDIT2: Added tags. Dag nabbit.

Awesome little instruction comic on how to publish a little 8 page zine or sample comic :) very clever!

Bear emerging from suspended animation by Jeremy Owen!

On the subject of sci-fi/fantasy… Here’s a pinup I did a little while ago for my BURLY pinup book (still on sale, only a few copies left, burlypress.com *hint hint*)

Haven’t posted in a while. Getting back into the swing of things… Here’s a pinup of Robert Baratheon I did for one of Dale Lazarov’s homoerotic pinup challenges :)
dalelazarov:

It’s Homoerotic King Robert Baratheon from Game of Thrones Season One drawn by Jeremy Owen / BurlyPress.com!
This is the fifth entry in the Homoerotic SciFi/Fantasy Character Pin-Up Challenge!
ATTN: ARTISTS/ILLUSTRATORS/CARTOONISTS OF G+/Tumblr/Facebook/DeviantArt/Twitter/etc: I challenge you to make a homoerotic version of the Science Fiction/Fantasy TV/movie/comics male character of your choice! Racial, ethnic, cultural, age and body type diversity are especially welcome. (Note: no video game or gaming characters, please. There’s plenty of filth about them online.)
Here are some character suggestions for you to homoeroticize:
— Homoerotic space hippie Freeman Lowell from Silent Running!
— Homoerotic smooth operator Agent J from Men In Black!
— Homoerotic future czar Nikolai Dante from 2000AD Magazine!
— Homoerotic woofy smuggler Davos Seaworth from Game of Thrones Season Two!
— Homoerotic uniform fetish Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart from Doctor Who!
— Homoerotic RanXerox! (OK, that one isn’t much of a challenge.)
— Homoerotic cyber-thug Morpheus from The Matrix!
— Homoerotic wizard daddy Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars!
…and so on!
